How to make ice candle holders
Reading time: 3 minute(s)

These easy-to-make DIY candle holders are nothing less than spectacular. They can be made by freezing them outside when the temperature allows, or by putting them in the freezer.
Perfect for decorating the garden or showing the way to your guests, they should be prepared a few hours in advance to give them time to freeze!
Material needed
- A plastic box for transport
- Medium or large inflatable balloons (if you plan to freeze them outside and not in the freezer, where space is limited!)
- Water
- Water-resistant LED lights or tealight candles
How to make candle holders
- One by one, fill the balloons with water using the tap.
- Tie a knot to hold the water inside, then place the balloon in your plastic box.
- Place the box in the cold, ideally outside (if not in the freezer), for 4 to 5 hours. A hard shell of ice will form inside the balloon, but the water in the centre should still be liquid. Before moving on to the next step, make sure that you can still hear the sound of the water inside when you shake the balloon.
- Pop the balloon over the sink or outside the house (the water that has not yet frozen will be drained) and throw it in the garbage. You will get hollow ice balls.
- Keep them in the freezer or outside for two more hours to allow them to harden further.
- Place your ice lanterns in the desired locations and insert a light source to give them a festive look!
